Do you support teachers and other educational professionals having a signed agreement as a result of collective bargaining?

Yes. I absolutely support collective bargaining rights of all labor groups, including educators and educational support professionals. Historically, labor unions organized to protect workers from the brutality of corporations that valued productivity over the humanity of their employees. While professional unions of today are often not responding to the physical harms of earlier generations, there are constant threats to livelihood that are most effectively addressed through collective bargaining units. As legislatures continue to disinvest in public education and as the labor of teaching continues to be automated and even outsourced, teacher unions and other collective bargaining entities are essential mechanisms to assert the dignity and professionalism of educators while also ensuring that those educators are compensated for their labor at a rate that is commensurate with their training and service. I believe that empowering teachers through CBAs yields a faculty that better serves students and the district. As a board member, I would not be involved directly in any future organizing among educational support professionals but I absolutely believe they have the right to do so.
